WHO IS SEVEN?
I go by the name Seven and I’m a creative from Croydon. My main passion is rapping, I also love music in general, I write a bit of poetry from time to time, I take loads of pics and really want to get into videography.
When thinking of a rap name, I remember standing outside of a studio with my friends, they already had rap names so I asked them to help me find one, they also had numbers in their names so they asked me what number meant the most to me. 7 is a number that’s shown up too many times in my life to ignore it. There’s the basic reasons like, I’m born in the 7th month of the year, I’m 5’7 and my shoe size in 7, but then there’s the deeper reasons like my uncle passed away in 2017 and I wrote my first rap to perform it for him at his funeral. I grew up listening to mostly gospel and reggae because of my family so hip hop and rap wasn’t something I was used to listening to a lot, until I got into my uncles car. He would be blasting a mix from soulja boy to drake and this started my love for rap, so I wrote a rap for him. 7 is also the number of perfection and completion in the Bible and I know it’s impossible for me to be perfect, but I still want to try and be like Christ. So yeah, too many 7’s, it’s only right.
My rapping is something that I hold so close to my heart. I struggle talking about my feelings in general, I don’t like the feeling of being vulnerable or letting people know too much of what’s going on inside but with rapping it comes so easy. I started rapping as a tribute to my uncle and my GG, I wanted to show them how much I loved them through rap, I continue to rap to convey my thoughts and feelings, to relate to people and to heal myself. When I finish rapping, I want to be able to say I’ve helped people through it, whether that be comforting them with my words or using the money I’ve made to really make a difference. I struggle so much with motivation and knowing how to continue on this rap journey, but I’m trying.
